This video shows the use of OneDrive, part of the MS office 365 suite, to back up selected folders from my laptop.
This video shows the process of creating a backup folder on the usb drive, going into my home folder on the laptop, selecting the desired folders to backup and dragging to the usb drive.
Macintosh computers will not need to be re-imaged
I will publish new printer details and scripts to access network drives after they become available in the new year.
The following video assumes you can access the staff portal, and shows how one user on a computer could backup data to google drive. Office 365 to come.
In January it is likely that our file server will be replaced by a new ET4L server.
This process will cause disruptions to computer services including the file server, printing and internet access at school. Email access from home will not be affected. Sentral access will be affected from home as well as school.
In order to fully access network drives and printers all computers will need to be re-imaged. This means that everything on the computers will be erased and replaced with new software. Data on our current file server will be moved to the new file server.
Data on the computer includes Desktop, Documents, Pictures, etc
The “drives” S,T,U,R (staff data, student data, homes and resources) are all on the server and will be safe.
Desktop computers will be re-imaged by the local It support team. Your staff laptop will be re-imaged if it is on your desk on January 11 2016 . It will be preferable to have your laptop re-imaged this way. If you take your laptop home over the holidays, you should not expect to have access to network drives or printers for some time at the beginning of Term 1.
This means that in the next few weeks of term all staff should backup any data that is not on the server. As well as your laptop please remember the desktop machines you regularly use. You can copy files to flash drives, external hard drives or cloud services.
Seriously consider the cloud services – we have access to both google drive and MS office onedrive through the Department of education --- your data can be accessed by almost any computing device including phones, tablets, desktops and laptops.
